Marie Santini is a professor at the School of Communication at UFRJ, where she founded and directs NetLab – the Laboratory for Internet and Social Media Studies. Marie is a CNPq Fellow, a Scientist of Our State Fellow at the Rio de Janeiro Research Support Foundation, an associate researcher at the European Centre of Excellence VOX-Pol, a member of the committee of the International Observatory on Information and Democracy (OID), and a researcher member of the International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE). She is the author of the book “O Algoritmo do gosto” (The Algorithm of Taste), on the functioning of content recommendation systems on online social media, and of the book “Atingidos pelas redes sociais: os impactos da indústria da desinformação nos consumidores brasileiros” (Impacted by Social Media: The Effects of the Disinformation Industry on Brazilian Consumers).
